Kosovo issues its own stamps and visa-free entry for 90 days to EU, UK, US, Canadian, Australian and many other passports. Serbia treats Kosovo's external borders as its own: if you plan to visit Serbia after Kosovo, enter Kosovo from Serbia first; entering from Albania, North Macedonia or Montenegro and then continuing to Serbia will be refused at the Serbian line. Kosovo passport holders gained Schengen visa-free travel in 2024.
Euro without the eurozone
Kosovo adopted the euro unilaterally; there is no Kosovar currency. Cash dominates outside Pristina, ATMs are common and Serbian dinars circulate in the northern municipalities. Cards work in hotels and better restaurants.
Local SIMs, no EU roaming
Vala and IPKO sell cheap prepaid SIMs at the airport and in every town; EU roaming plans mostly exclude Kosovo. Coverage is good except deep in the Rugova and Bogë valleys.
