EU, UK, US, Canadian, Australian and many other passports get 90 days without a visa. Entering Transnistria you receive a migration card from the de facto authorities valid for a stated number of hours or days; keep it and leave on time. Do not enter Transnistria from Ukraine, which leaves you without a Moldovan entry stamp.
Lei, and a separate rouble in the east
Withdraw lei from bank ATMs in Chișinău; cards work in the capital and at the large cellars but villages and minibuses are cash-only. Transnistria uses its own rouble, unobtainable outside the region; change a small amount there and spend it before leaving. Moldovan lei are accepted at some Tiraspol exchanges.
Cheap SIMs, separate network in Transnistria
Orange and Moldcell prepaid SIMs are cheap and cover the whole country; EU roaming does not apply. Moldovan SIMs mostly fail in Transnistria, whose own network needs a local card.
