Visa on arrival for many nationalities since 2025
Namibia ended visa-free entry for most European, North American and other nationalities in April 2025; apply through the online portal or pay on arrival, and check the current fee and passport validity rules.
Namibian dollars and rand interchangeable
South African rand is accepted at par everywhere; cards work in towns, lodges and fuel stations but carry cash for campsites, conservancy fees and rural shops. ATMs are limited to towns.
MTC SIM in Windhoek, then patchy
Coverage is good in towns and along tarred roads and vanishes across the Namib, Damaraland and much of Etosha. Download offline maps, carry a printed route and tell your lodge your expected arrival time.
Type M and type D sockets
Namibia uses the South African three-round-pin type M at 220 V, with older type D in places; buy an adapter in Windhoek because most universal sets lack it.
